About

Dr. Alton Brooks Parker is a board-certified Addictionologist and Hospitalist physician, with extensive experience in those suffering from substance use disorders, care of the hospitalized patient, and family medicine. He brings a strong blend of clinical expertise, passion and leadership to his role as Medical Director at The Recovery Village Indianapolis. He has served as a US Naval physician, a Medical Director, Hospitalist Lead physician and President of the Medical Staff. 

Dr. Parker specializes in a broad array of treatment of complex medical conditions from the critically ill hospitalized patient to those plagued by substance use disorders. As such, he brings a strong foundation to comprehensively address the medical and psychosocial concerns of his patients from their entry point into his care through discharge and beyond.  

His clinical approach integrates evidence-based practices such as medication-assisted treatment (MAT), withdrawal management and comprehensive medical assessments, as well as a focus on a multidisciplinary approach to the care of his patients. As importantly, his honest, open, and empathetic style is key to his patient engagement. 

Throughout his career, Dr. Parker has contributed to the advancement of medical education and team development in his ongoing proctoring and onboarding of advanced practice providers, oversight of newly hired colleagues, and as a mentoring physician in a pharmacy residency and with medical students. He is known to be a key engager in the success and advancement of his work environment by his high level of involvement, his fostering collaborative, multidisciplinary care, and assistance in maintaining and developing high quality metrics and regulatory compliance.
